Pippa Jameson – Interior Stylist & Blogger

Want to know more about AEG’s new 7000 series washing machine? Interior stylist and blogger, Pippa Jameson, has carried out an exclusive review of its innovative features and functions!

Pippa explored the extensive range of wash cycles and was particularly impressed by ProSteam technology. She also compliments its contemporary style, designed for usability. Find out more below.

AEG Washing Machine Review – by Pippa Jameson

We are in the process of a home renovation and over the next 4 months we are knocking down walls (!) changing the decor and updating appliances, including a new washing machine.  We have gone for an AEG 7000 ProSteam. It’s an 8kg model but way more advanced than our old one, it even has a steam option for clothes but I will come to that later.

In terms of aesthetics, it’s a good-looking machine.  The overall look has a soft fluidity to it and is absent of any hard lines, similar to our cupboard handles.  I also like the fact that it has a black control panel as this ties in nicely our raven coloured cabinets.

Even though the drum is the same size as our old machine, the style of the door is wider giving the appearance of a larger model. Another stylish touch is the matte silver door frame, it’s a simple addition but adds to the contemporary feel.

AEG 7000 Series Washing Machine Programme Selector

Wash Cycles

I was a little overwhelmed by the digital display and all of the wash cycles that were on offer, including this curious steam programme. I think it’s great to have an advanced machine but it does need to be user-friendly, especially when you have a ton of grubby kids clothes to wash!  It took some time to read the manual and I was amazed at how much there was to offer.  Other than cleaning the clothes well, my main priorities for a machine are one that offers a quick wash for when you need something straight away, normally something child related, and one that is quiet.

AEG 7000 Series Washing Machine Door

ProSense Technology

The digital display is fairly sensitive and takes a little getting used to but was really easy to navigate. As mentioned, the time save and quick washes are an integral part of my washing and so these are the programmes I tried first. However, before the wash starts, this machine weighs your clothes and adjust the settings accordingly ensuring you have the most economical wash possible – really.  If that’s not good enough, the time save button has two cool settings; one press for time save on a normal load and then two presses for time save on a smaller load and reducing the length of the wash. Both of these cycles worked well.

AEG 7000 Series Washing Machine Buttons

Being able to ‘pause and interrupt’ a wash is also a button that gets used frequently in this household as I am forever adding to a cycle that has already started.  Good to see that this machine has one of those. Other good programmes are the sports, duvet and outdoors and anti-allergy, trust me when I say it does it all.

ProSteam Technology

The Crème de la crème for me has to be the ProSteam technology ‘steam’ button.  If, like me, you avoid ironing like the plague, this little button will be your golden ticket but the question is, does it work and the answer is, yes. This button is not meant to remove all creases, just reduce them by 1/3 and so if you think all the creases will miraculously vanish and remove the need for ironing then think again.  What it does do is remove enough creases to make the ironing 50% easier and that’s good enough for me.

AEG 7000 Series Washing Machine Capacity

This machine has a big thumbs up for me. It is high-end at a cost of £599 but unlike other brands, it comes with a 5 year guarantee which makes it a sound purchase.

Top Tips for Removing Stubborn Stains

Comments Off on Top Tips for Removing Stubborn Stains

Stubborn stains are usually a sign of a good time or a hard day’s graft, but removing the evidence from your clothing can seem like a chore.

There are many ways to remove stains – some more interesting than others – but pre-treating the stain is the key to successful stain removal. Another top tip is to dab away any excess liquid first. Rubbing it in will only make it worse.

Let’s take a look at how to make the most common stains disappear.

Tea and Coffee Stains

coffee stainThe morning caffeine fix is an essential for most of us, but what happens if you’re rushing to work and your crisp white shirt receives a slosh of tea or coffee?

Rinsing the targeted area with warm water will loosen the stain, and prevent any major discolouration. This should be done ASAP so the stain doesn’t have a chance to set into your clothing. Luckily, tea stains are quite pale, so if you’re out and about when it happens, giving it a quick rinse should see you through until you can tackle the stain properly.

Once you are home, other methods can be used to make sure the stain is well and truly gone.

Using a stain remover should do the trick, but if you don’t have any, it’s worth raiding the food cupboard for some more imaginative stain removal agents.

A splash of white vinegar or a generous layer of baking soda will make light work of the stain. Wet the stain and apply either of the ingredients to the affected area. After a soak, the discolouration should disappear, but remember to give it a proper clean in the machine afterwards.

Red Wine Stains

red wine stainRed wine on clothing seems like the end of the world, and we’re all guilty of the same thought: “well… that’s ruined”.

There’s no reason to panic, though. If you follow these simple tips, it’ll be like the spillage never happened.

Adding white wine to the affected area isn’t an old wives’ tale – it really does work. Firstly, use a cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible, then apply white wine to the stain. The wine will neutralise the colour, making it easier to remove.

If you’d rather drink the wine than use it as a stain remover, salt is another effective remedy. It draws out the liquid and ensures the wine doesn’t sink into the fabric.

After the pre-treatment, you can wash your clothes as normal, but if you want to be extra safe, consider using a little laundry bleach.

Sports Stains

mud stain Children aren’t afraid of getting messy, and we can always expect a dirty kit after P.E or football practice.

Slides, tackles and dives inevitably result in grass stains and dried on mud, which can be a little stubborn to remove.

The best way to remove mud stains is to wait for the mud to dry. Once dried, scrape off the excess and pop it in the washing machine.

Grass stains are particularly difficult because the organic matter closely resembles fabric fibres. So, the vibrant green colour easily clings to clothing, making it harder to remove.

As this type of stain is particularly stubborn, you should soak the clothes as soon as possible; if you like, you can also put some detergent on the stain to help loosen the fibres. Sit back and relax for 15 minutes while the cleaning agent does its work. After a good soak, wash the garments at a high temperature using an enzyme laundry detergent.

Before applying detergent directly onto the material, you should test out a small patch, just to make sure there’ll be no damage to the garment.

Grease

greaseWhether you’re a mechanic or a cook, grease is capable of ruining your clothes. The key tip for removing grease effectively is to act quickly.

Before putting your garment in the washing machine, you can try using washing up liquid to dislodge the stain. Apply a small amount of the liquid to an old toothbrush and softly scrub the fabric. It should then be washed at a high temperature – but make sure you stick to the washing guidelines!

Blood, Sweat and Sauces

sauce stainBlood: Act fast and immediately soak the clothing in cold water. Then add some warm water, along with some detergent. After another soak, the garments can be washed in the machine.

Sweat: To avoid the brown/grey tinge on your pure white tops, soak your clothes in warm soapy water before giving them a proper wash.

Sauces: To treat sauce-like stains, place the clothes in cold, soapy water for a soak before putting them in the washing machine.

The Washing Machine

It’s no use expecting clean clothes out of a dirty machine. Use a special cleaner in the drum to get rid of dirt, limescale and bacteria. It will help maintain top quality results with every wash.

Folding a T-Shirt in 3 Seconds! [Video]

May 27, 2015

Comments Off on Folding a T-Shirt in 3 Seconds! [Video]

Packing to go on holiday and want to fold your t-shirts in mere moments? Or maybe you’d like to impress your significant other with your laundry skills? Either way, this is the video for you.

As part of their Easy Tips series, Zanussi presents the perfect way to fold a t-shirt in three seconds flat.

Step 1

Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface with the collar on your left.

Step 2

Imagine a line running across the shirt from the shoulder to the hem, and another cutting it in half. The first line will be horizontal, from your point of view, while the second one will be vertical.

Step 3

Pinch the shirt at the point where the two lines cross with your right hand, and at the shoulder on the same line with your left. Make sure you’re holding the front and back pieces of fabric.

Step 4

Pull the shoulder of the tee over to where your second line meets the bottom hem. This will mean crossing your arms over. Grab the hem with your left hand, but keep hold of the shoulder as well.

Step 5

Lift the shirt and uncross your hands, pulling the fabric taught. You’ll end up with a half folded shirt hanging down.

Step 6

Drape the shirt face down onto the surface and use this motion to fold the section you’re holding on top.

This method is perfect if you’re travelling or want to quickly fold clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer. Your t-shirts will be neat, tidy and crumple free.

Zanussi’s Easy Tips aren’t the only way you can make laundry day simpler. Take a look at our Lindo300 washing machines for XXL 9 kg drums capable of fitting in 65 items in one go.

Now that’s easy.
