Catalytic oven liners and pyro functions make cleaning your cooker really simple. But if you don’t have them, baking soda is the next best thing.
This Easy Tips video from Zanussi shows you just how easy oven cleaning can be!
You don’t need super powers such as time control and invisibility to clean your oven – all you need is some baking soda, water and much less elbow grease than you’d think.
Just sprinkle the baking soda onto the door and bottom of the oven as pictured, or for the sides, create a thick paste out of the powder and water and apply that. You may need to leave it overnight for the best results.
The advantage of this method is that baking powder is natural and safe. It’s mildly abrasive and much friendlier than most chemical cleaners. Better yet, it doesn’t smell. There’s nothing worse than cleaning your oven with a commercial cleaner and then worrying about fumes when you turn it on afterwards.
You can spray white vinegar around the oven interior to remove any traces of baking soda when you’re finished, although the odour may linger for a while.
In case you were wondering, yes – baking soda and bicarbonate of soda are the same. Baking powder is slightly different, but it contains bicarbonate of soda along with an acid, like cream of tartar.
As with any cleaning product, test on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn’t harm the surface.
If all this sounds like too much hassle, why not buy a Zanussi Pyrolytic Oven instead? These models clean themselves.
